VADM James B. Stockdale, USN(Ret), an indomitable Medal of Honor awardee, Naval Aviator and academician who endured more than seven years of captivity during the Vietnam War was one of the most highly decorated officers in U.S. Naval history. He received two Distinguished Flying Crosses, two Purple Hearts and four Silver Stars among his 26 combat decorations. He was the only three-star admiral to wear both aviator wings and the Medal of Honor, presented by President Ford in 1976.
