This scholarship is awarded in memory of LCDR John Farnsworth, a Naval Aviator who died January 2000 at age 66. John was born in Peoria, Illinois. He flew 200 combat missions from USS Kitty Hawk (CVA-63) over Vietnam. He left the Navy in 1975 to become an account executive with Hart Publishing in San Diego, California. Throughout his life he enjoyed playing banjo and led a 13-piece San Diego banjo band.
