This scholarship is awarded in memory of LCDR John Farnsworth, a Naval Aviator who died January 2000 at age 66. John was born in Peoria, Illinois and flew 200 combat missions from USS Kitty Hawk (CVA-63) over Vietnam. He left the Navy in 1975 to become an account executive with Hart Publishing, San Diego, Calif. Throughout his life he enjoyed playing the banjo and was leader of a 13-piece San Diego, California banjo band.
