Scholarship Description
This Lockheed Martin sponsored scholarship is dedicated to VADM John “Jack” Ready whose 30+ years of Naval service included commanding the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School, the Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN), USS Ashtabula, USS Saratoga, and, as Commander, Naval Air Forces Atlantic Fleet, serving during the first Gulf War. He accumulated over 6,800 hours in 84 types of aircraft, with over 1,100 arrested carrier landings. Upon retirement from the Navy as a Vice Admiral, Jack Ready became Director of Navy Programs and Joint Strike Fighter at the Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company. As a global security, innovation, and aerospace company, the majority of Lockheed Martin's business is with the U.S. Department of Defense and U.S. Federal government agencies. In addition, Sikorsky (a Lockheed Martin Company) provides military and rotary-wing aircraft to all five branches of the U.S. armed forces along with military services and commercial operators in 40 nations.
